Boy playing violin

What are students saying about Con Brio?

  • “[Dr. Geertz] has been Helena's teacher since she was 6 years old and Harrison was 3 year old.  She is an amazing teacher - super knowledgeable about violin technique.  She has a lot of tricks and little exercises to boost the child's playing ability.  She is gentle with the kids and extremely patient  - especially with Harrison!!!  But she is no push over, she will call out the kids in a kind but firm manner when they are not putting in their best efforts.  I highly recommend Ms Lois.  My children LOVE her and think the world of her”!

  • "I can’t speak highly enough about Dr. Geertz and her Con Brio Violin program.  As a more senior adult who had played violin for only a couple of years as a teenager, I sought someone who had experience with adult learners and was flexible and adaptable.  I found everything I was looking for and more with Dr. Geertz.  Very importantly, she is kind, caring, understanding, adaptable, flexible, passionate and devoted to making her students of all ages successful.  Not only do I recommend her as an adult teacher, I have personally seen how great she is with her young, some very young, students.  She has an extensive array of tools appropriate for all ages, levels and learning abilities.  And she has examples and stories appropriate for all ages which help with learning.  If I had children, I would send them straight to her!"

  • “Both of my children (ages 8 and 10) take violin lessons with Dr. Geertz and have now for several years.  My oldest started with her at four years old.  Dr. Geertz is kind and patient with them, but also a stickler for technique and good form. She uses an incremental approach to develop strong skills over time and a solid foundation.  They are not just learning a piece of music but learning how to learn and apply skills so that their time spent practicing outside of their lesson time can be just as productive as the short time that they have with her each week. Although my kids each have very different personalities and learning styles, Dr. Geertz works great with both of them!  For my younger child especially, she has been exceptional in finding new ways to keep her engaged and incorporate her other interests, like visual art, into her lessons.  Dr. Geertz’ willingness to “go off script” from the Suzuki method has kept my daughter developing musically and has given her the opportunity to explore other types of music.  It has been amazing to see how much they have grown in their musical interests and abilities.  I would highly recommend her to anyone interested in violin lessons for their children, no matter the age!”
